Considered as a linking species between the dragons of the east and those of Ulthuan, the storm dragons present characteristics of both species with sinuous serpentine bodies, whiskers and fur like the eastern dragons but with the cranial structure and the characteristic bat wings of the Ulthuan dragons. Storm Dragons are rarely found on ground level, loving to swoop down and plunge into the heart of the most terrible storms. Thus, they accumulate a crackling electrical charge on their blue scales, in order to spit them out in a ball of lightning.
Although they can be found all over the world they are especially common in the Tenmine region of Nippon where the abundance of the wind of Azyr continually generates thunderstorms allowing them to be continuously active.
Although yokai do not usually respect the creatures of the mortal world considering them weak and inferior, dragons are one of the few exceptions to this rule. In Nippon the storm dragons are respected and worshiped and here these creatures do not need to bother with petty and dangerous tasks such as hunting or defending their treasure hoards because by expressing their desire the Yokai and humans will bring them offerings of cattle with the frequency and in the amounts they wish and if some fool dares to enter the lair of the creature and steal its treasures, the rulers of the region will give the order to tirelessly pursue the thief and return what was stolen to the dragon, as well as an extra to compensate for the offense.
One of the few uses that the Oni Lords have for material wealth is to make great gifts to the dragons in exchange for their help in battle. Appealing to the innate greed of these creatures they usually accept in exchange for large amounts of gold and jewels. Those Oni Daimyo who can afford an obscene amount of treasure may be able to get the dragon to let them use it as a mount for a while but few can pay the price as the amounts of precious metals they demand for it would make a marienburg merchant prince look like a street beggar.
