Warhammer Nippon concept fanart: Kodama

Kodama are created by the fusion yokai spirits with dead trees, animating it at will and moving silently through the forest. Once in this form, a kodama becomes a formidable fighter, with hardened skin and sharp claws. Most of these spirits are disgusted by those who have no respect for the environment. If a tree is cut down irresponsibly, one or more kodamas may seek revenge. Most of these spirits are peaceful and calm in character; they like to share knowledge and wisdom with those who know how to communicate with them. Kodamas are surprisingly strong and powerful spirits, given their long lifespan. When a hostile force threatens the forests of Nippon, it is not uncommon for groups of Kodamas to join the defending forces in support.
