Warhammer Nippon concept fanart: Ningen Bushi

In addition to the common troops of the ashigaru, the Oni samurai have more specialized troops among their human vassals. Foremost among these are the Ningen bushi, corps of infantry or heavy cavalry that serve as elite troops or commanders of human regiments on the battlefield.
The ningen bushi are grim warriors who fight with massive two-handed swords, stout spears with which they make crushing cavalry charges, or unleash a hail of projectiles from their mounts. All wear magnificent armor created in the image and likeness of their samurai lords and many wear demonic masks to emulate the Oni. These warriors, who fight like true heroes, began as humble ashigaru but with great displays of bravery and martial skill they have obtained honors on the battlefield. The oni consider these humans the only ones worthy of being their comrades in arms (not like the rest wich they treat as expendable fodder) and this fills the ningen bushi with excessive pride, who will do whatever it takes to continue maintaining this respect from their lords. Despite how dangerous it is to face certain enemies, they never hesitate to risk their lives in order to be respected.
Due to the scarcity of the Winds of Magic in other parts of the world, the oni cannot always afford to leave the isles of Nippon and delegate the leadership of scouting parties or trading ventures to the ningen bushi. Due to their leadership role, the similarities in their armor and the language barriers, many cultures, especially those of the old world, confuse the ningen bushi with the samurai, which greatly offends the bushi that in more than one occasion have beheaded whoever has the audacity to say that.
